Akon Etim Eyakenyi is a Nigerian politician and the senator representing Akwa a Ibom South in the 9th National Assembly. Akon Eyakenyi attended Government Primary School, Uko-Uyukim where she obtained her First School Leaving Certificate in 1974. She proceeded to Methodist Teacher’s Training College in Oron where she obtained Teachers Grade II Certificate in 1979.

In 1986, Akon Eyakenyi obtained Nigerian Certificate in Education (NCE) from the University of Calabar.

Akon Eyakenyi started her career as a teacher after she was employed by the Cross River state government as Mistress I and Mistress II. She worked with the Cross River State Education Board from 1986-1993.

In 1991, she was appointed a Supervisor for Education, Youths, Sports and Culture in Oron.

Upon the creation of Akwa Ibom State, she worked as an education officer with the Akwa Ibom State ministry of education from 1993 to 1999.

In 1999, Akon Eyakenyi was appointed to serve in the Akwa Ibom State Education board.

In 2000, Akon Eyakenyi was appointed the Commissioner for Industry, Commerce and Tourism in Akwa Ibom State by the Governor of Akwa Ibom State Victor Attah.

Akon Eyakenyi worked as the Chairman of Akwa Ibom State Technical Schools Board during Governor Akpabio‘s administration between 2013 and 2014.

In 2014, President Jonathan appointment her as the Minister of Lands, Housing and Urban Development.

In 2018, Akon Eyakenyi picked nomination form to run for senate under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). She won the party primaries and was elected a senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in 2019.

Akon Eyakenyi represents Akwa Ibom South senatorial zone in the 9th National Assembly.
