The National Health Insurance Scheme(NHIS) was established in 1999 under the Act 35 of the 1999 constitution by the Federal Government of Nigeria. NHIS is tasked with improving the health of Nigerian citizens at an affordable cost through various prepayment system.
NHIS provides social health care insurance in Nigeria where health care of the contributors are paid from common pool of fund contributed by the participants. NHIS guarantees payment of the needed health services for persons on the payment token.Â
NHIS is tasked with regulating private health insurance operated by the Health Maintenance Organizations (HMOs). NHIS has its offices spread across geopolitical zones and states in Nigeria for easy access by Nigerians. Below are NHIS offices in NigeriaÂ
