Educational Background
Abdullahi Adamu attended Government Secondary School, Makurdi between 1960–1962 and the Government Technical College, Bukuru between 1962 and 1965.
He obtained a National Diploma from the Kaduna Polytechnic in 1971.

Abdullahi Adamu obtained a degree in law from the University of Jos in 1992. He attended the Nigerian Law School, Lagos and was called to the Bar as a solicitor and Advocate of Supreme Court of Nigeria in December 1993.
Career
Abdullahi Adamu started his career in 1967 with the Electricity Corporation of Nigeria and later joined the Northern Nigeria Development Corporation (NNDC) Kaduna in 1971.
In 1973, he became a project manager for AEK, a consultancy firm. He supervised the construction of Durbar Hotel and Murtala Mohammed Square, Kaduna.

In October 1975, Abdullahi Adamu was appointed the Executive Secretary of the Benue/Plateau Construction Company by the Benue/Plateau State government.
He was the Chairman of the Benue Cement Company, Gboko from 1980 to 1983.
Abdullahi Adamu joined politics in 1977 and was a member of the Constituent Assembly, which drafted the constitution for Nigeria’s short-lived Second Republic.
He was a pioneer member of the National Party of Nigeria (NPN) and Secretary-General of the NPN in Plateau State from December 1978
Adamu was the chairman of the NPN in the Plateau from 1982 to 1983.
In 1994, Abdullahi Adamu was appointed to the National Constitutional Conference by General Sani Abacha’s administration and later the minister of state of the Works and Housing ministry in 1995.
In 1997, Abdullahi Adamu joined the United Nigeria Congress Party (UNCP).
Adamu became a founding member of People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in 1998.
In 1999, Abdullahi Adamu was elected the governor of Nasarawa state under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

In 2011, Abdullahi Adamu was elected as a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to represent Nasarawa West Senatorial zone.
