Educational Background
He started his formal education at Islamiyya Primary School (now Yelwa Primary School) where he obtained his First School Leaving Certificate in 1975. Then, he further went to Government Secondary School (now Murtala Muhammed College), Yola, where he studied and obtained the West African School Certificate in 1980.
After he graduated from the University of Maiduguri in 1986 with a Bachelor of Education degree majoring in History. He later returned to the University of Maiduguri, where he studied and obtained a Master of Education in Philosophy in 1991.
He also got offered a postgraduate scholarship as the first academic staff of the Federal College of Education, Yola to be offered such when he was serving as Assistant Lecturer at the time. Controversies
Mustapha Umar Madawaki was arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC in 2015 for the failed Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Housing Scheme, but he was later released after making a comprehensive statement on what he knew about the failed housing Scheme.
The NLC also accused him of opening a separate bank account to collect money from subscribers after both parties agreed to stop collection. Mustapha Umar Madawaki reacted in a press statement where he said that the contract obligated both parties to play different roles to actualize the project and lay out the responsibility and obligation of the NLC, to provide the land on which he was to build houses for Nigerian workers.
And the NLC failed to do so, he added that they could not provide the land, which prompted his company to take action by making deposits for land in Karsana, Apo, and Gosa all in Abuja but its efforts were hindered by the NLC.
