During the preparation for the election in 2015, the CPC merged its structure with the APC, and Masari became a governing party member.

Then he became APC welfare secretary during Adams Oshiomhole’s, former Edo State Governor, administration as national chairman of the party from 2018 until 2020. In 2022 after all his political journey, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the presidential candidate for the All Progressives Congress (APC), submitted the name of Kabir Masari to serve as his running mate in the presidential election that will place in 2023.

There were rumors that Tinubu will replace Masari and some said that he only dropped out of the race after he failed to meet INEC requirements. Kabiru Masari made his resignation known in a public statement in July, he said he wish to step down for the good of the party and to enable the party to win.
