He worked in various legal positions, including as a practicing attorney.

Brown’s political career began in Massachusetts. He served as a member of the Massachusetts House of Representatives from 1998 to 2004 and then as a member of the Massachusetts State Senate from 2004 to 2010. In 2010, Brown won a special election to become the United States Senator for Massachusetts, making him the first Republican to hold the seat since 1972. He served in the Senate from February 2010 to January 2013.

After leaving the Senate, Brown joined the board of directors of the Kadant paper company, worked as a commentator for Fox News, and provided legal services at Nixon Peabody.

In 2017, President Donald Trump nominated Scott Brown to serve as the United States Ambassador to New Zealand and Samoa. He was confirmed by the Senate and served in this diplomatic role from June 2017 to December 2020.

From January to August 2021, Brown served as the Dean of New England Law Boston, a private law school located in Boston.
