Career

Gawuna’s political journey began when he was appointed as Deputy Governor of Kano State by Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje in August 2018. He continued to serve as Deputy Governor during Governor Ganduje’s second term from 2019 to 2023. Before his appointment as Deputy Governor, Gawuna held the position of Commissioner for Agriculture in Kano State from 2014 to 2022. He was initially appointed as a commissioner by former Governor Engineer Rabiu Kwankwaso.

Gawuna also has a history of public service, having served as the Chairman of Nassarawa Local Government Area for 8 years under the defunct All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) while Ibrahim Shekarau was the Governor of Kano State.
