Educational Background

After completing his veterinary degree, Adesola ventured into the financial sector, obtaining a Master’s degree in Business Administration from Cranfield School of Management, where he was a British Chevening Scholar.

Career

Adesola started his banking career in 1994 with Afribank Nigeria Plc. He then worked with Arthur Andersen Nigeria and KPMG Professional Services, gaining extensive experience in financial services. He also served as Senior Vice-President and Chief Financial Officer at Citibank Nigeria Limited.

In November 2007, Adesola joined Africa Finance Corporation as the Chief Financial Officer and Business Manager, later securing an investment grade international credit rating for the institution.

Adesola joined FirstBank in July 2014 as an Executive Director and Group Chief Financial Officer. He rose to become the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer in January 2016, overseeing operations across various subsidiaries. Throughout his career, Adesola received accolades such as the Banker of the Year 2016 and the African Banking Personality of the Year 2019.

Controversies

Adesola faced a controversial removal as Managing Director and CEO of First Bank of Nigeria in April 2021, which was later reinstated by the Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). In April 2024, Adesola announced his resignation as the Managing Director and CEO of First Bank of Nigeria.
