Educational Background
After completing his secondary education, Magnus pursued a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) degree and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1987.
Career
Following his admission to the Bar, Magnus began his legal career as a Pupil State Counsel for the Federal Ministry of Justice in Lagos. He later transitioned into private practice, initially as a junior partner with Okocha & Okocha, Manuchim Chambers. He eventually became a managing partner with Etim-Inyang, Abe in Port Harcourt.
Magnus entered politics in 1999 when he was elected into the Rivers State House of Assembly, where he served as Minority Leader. He defected to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in 2003 and subsequently served as the Commissioner of Information in Rivers State from 2003 to 2007 during Governor Peter Odili’s administration.
Upon Governor Chibuike Amaechi’s assumption of office in May 2007, Abe was appointed as the Secretary to the State Government. He then transitioned to national politics and was elected as a Senator for the Rivers South East Senatorial District in 2011, a position he held until 2015 In 2014, Magnus defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC). He ran for governorship of Rivers State in 2019 but failed to secure the party’s nomination.
