He currently serves as the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources under the Babajide Sanwo-Olu Administration in Lagos State. He has recently been appointed by President Bola Tinubu as the new Chief Executive Officer and Executive Vice-Chairman of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC), pending Senate confirmation.

He later served as Chairman of the Editorial Board at THISDAY Newspaper. He also worked as a Staff Writer for St. Petersburg Times in Florida and US News & World Report in Washington DC.

In politics, Bello’s career took off as the Special Assistant to MKO Abiola, the winner of Nigeria’s annulled June 12, 1993, Presidential election. He was actively involved in NADECO, a pro-democracy group advocating for democratic governance in Nigeria.

He joined the Lagos State government under Governor Bola Tinubu, serving as the Head of Signage and Advertising Agency (LASSA) and subsequently as Commissioner for Environment. He continued to hold influential positions under subsequent administrations, including Secretary to the State Government under Governor Akinwunmi Ambode.
