Baffa Babba Danagundi, popularly known as Baffanyo, is a prominent Nigerian politician born on June 22, 1973, in Kofar Danagundi quarters of Kano Municipal. He hails from a notable family, being the son of the late Babba Danagundi, a kingmaker in the Kano Emirate Council with the traditional title Sarkin Dawaki Mai Tuta, and a great-grandson to Jamo of the Sullubawa Fulani Clan. Baffa Babba Danagundi was recently appointed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the Director-General of the National Productivity Centre (NPC).

Educational Background

Baffa attended Gidan Makama Special Primary School from 1981 to 1986, followed by Government Technical College, Wudil, from 1986 to 1989. He completed his secondary education at Unity College, Karaye, between 1989 and 1992. He holds a National Diploma and a Higher National Diploma from Kano State Polytechnic and earned an MBA from Bayero University Kano.

Baffa began his career as an Assistant Clerical Officer at the Kano State High Court of Justice, eventually rising to the position of Principal Registrar before resigning to pursue a career in politics.

In 2007, Baffa was appointed Acting Chairman of Kano Municipal by former Governor Malam Ibrahim Shekarau. He served as Senior Special Assistant to former Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso from 2012 to 2014. In 2015, Baffa was elected as a Member of the Kano State House of Assembly on the APC platform, defeating the incumbent Salisu Maje Ahmad Gwangwazo of the PDP. He became the Majority Leader in 2018 after the impeachment of former Speaker Yusuf Abdullahi Ata and Majority Leader Muhammad Bello Butu Butu.

Baffa chaired several committees, including the investigation committee on the controversial video clip allegedly showing Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje receiving a $5 million bribe. He also served as Vice Chairman of the committee investigating former Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, on various charges. Although he lost the 2019 general election to Salisu Maje Ahmad Gwangwazo, Baffa was appointed Managing Director of the Kano Road Traffic Agency (KAROTA) by Governor Ganduje and later served as Managing Director of the Kano Consumer Protection Council.
