Anil Ambani comes from a Gujarati family from Chorwad village near Junagadh in Gujarat, India. He is the youngest son of the renowned textile entrepreneur Dhirubhai Ambani and his wife Kokilaben Ambani, who founded the Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Mumbai. Anil has an older brother, Mukesh Ambani, who is also a prominent businessman and two sisters, Nina Kothari and Deepti Salgaocar.

Anil Ambani earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Kishinchand Chellaram College and completed his Master in Business Administration at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania in 1983.

CAREER

Dhirubhai Ambani, Anil’s father, passed away in 2002 without a clear succession plan. This led to conflicts between Anil and his brother Mukesh. Their mother, Kokilaben Ambani, intervened and helped mediate a division of the family-owned businesses between the two brothers.

Anil Ambani received parts of the Reliance Group, focusing on telecom, entertainment, financial services, power, and infrastructure. He is known for overseeing India’s largest IPO, Reliance Power, which was fully subscribed in under 60 seconds in 2008.
