Donald Drake Hogestyn was born on September 29, 1953, in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Growing up, Hogestyn showed early promise in both academics and athletics.
EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND
He graduated from North Side High School in his hometown before attending the University of South Florida in Tampa on a baseball scholarship. While there, he pursued pre-dentistry and graduated with a double major in microbiology and applied sciences.
CAREER
Hogestyn’s talents in baseball led him to be drafted by two major professional baseball organizations: the St. Louis Cardinals and the New York Yankees. He ultimately signed with the Yankees and played third base for their farm team. Unfortunately, his baseball career was cut short by an injury in 1977, which led him to reevaluate his future.
After his baseball career ended, Hogestyn took a bold step into the world of acting. He entered a Columbia Pictures talent search that included 75,000 participants and was among the 30 selected. In 1986, Hogestyn’s career took a pivotal turn when he was cast as John Black in the popular soap opera Days of Our Lives.
