Tallen hails from Shendam, where she was born to Nda Paul Kattiems. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from the University of Jos in 1982, laying a strong foundation for her future in public service and politics.
Career
Tallen’s political journey began in 1976 as a clerical officer at the Shendam local government council, followed by a role in the Ministry of Local Government Affairs. In 1994, she became a councillor in Plateau State and later served as a commissioner during the military regime from 1994 to 1999.
She made history in 1999 as the first female Minister of State for Science and Technology under President Olusegun Obasanjo. Subsequently, she became the deputy governor of Plateau State from 2007 to 2011, marking another milestone as the first woman to hold that position in northern Nigeria.
She contested the governorship in 2011 but was unsuccessful against Jonah David Jang. Tallen switched political parties multiple times, aligning with the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2015 after leaving the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). She is currently a member of the board of trustees of the APC and was recognized as Woman of the Year at the 10th African Icon of Our Generation Awards for her significant contributions to Nigeria. Additionally, she serves on the board of the National Agency for Control of AIDS (NACA).
