Gray was born in North London to Irish immigrants who had settled in Tottenham in the early 1950s. Her father worked as a furniture salesman, while her mother was a barmaid.
EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND
She attended a state-funded Roman Catholic school but had to abandon her plans for university following her father’s sudden death in 1975. Instead, Gray entered the Civil Service straight from school.
