Born on May 19, 1996, in Rumphi District, in northern Malawi. She is the third of five children in her family and belongs to the Tumbuka ethnic group. Tabitha developed a passion for football at the young age of five and initially played alongside boys until the age of 13. She then joined DD Sunshine, a girls’ football club based in Lilongwe, where her talent flourished.

Her younger sister, Temwa Chawinga, is also a professional footballer, and the two have occasionally played together for both club and country.
