JULIET ASANTE BIOGRAPHY
Born Juliet Yaa Asantewa Asante in Ghana as the second of five children, Juliet Asante grew up with a passion for the arts and education.
EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND
She pursued her tertiary education with remarkable dedication, earning two bachelor’s degrees. The first was from the University of Cape Coast, and the second was in Film Directing from the National Film and Television Institute (NAFTI), where she graduated with first-class honors.
Asante’s commitment to education took her to the Harvard Kennedy School of Government, where she obtained a Master’s in Public Administration (MPA) and a Master’s in Public Policy (MPP).
CAREER
Juliet began her acting career at the young age of 17 and quickly rose to prominence, starring in several notable films including: Deadly Voyage (1996), Twin Lovers,Tears of Blood, Ripples and Silver Rain. Her film Silver Rain garnered critical acclaim, receiving nominations for “Best Film in West Africa” and “Best Costume” at the 2015 Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCA).
Juliet founded Eagle House Productions, a company that has trained many Ghanaian actors and filmmakers through its Eagle Drama Workshop. She also launched Mobile Flicks, an initiative to produce short films for mobile devices. In addition, she is the visionary behind the Black Star International Film Festival, an event that celebrates African filmmaking and fosters cross-cultural collaboration in the industry.
Beyond her film career, Juliet Asante is an advocate for education and women’s rights. She founded the Yaa Asantewa Library Project, which focuses on building and stocking libraries to improve literacy in Ghanaian communities. She is also the founder of Save Our Women International, a non-profit organization dedicated to female sexual education and empowerment.
Asante has been widely recognized for her contributions to film and advocacy.
