Chukwudi Iwuji was born on October 15, 1975, in Nigeria. He grew up in a family of five siblings. Due to his parents’ diplomatic roles, his family moved to Ethiopia when he was ten years old. At the age of twelve, he was sent to boarding school in England.

Between 1987 and 1993, he attended Caterham School in Surrey, where he became the first Black student to be elected Head Boy. After completing his secondary education, he pursued a Bachelor of Arts in Economics at Yale University, graduating in 1997. However, his passion for acting grew during his time at Yale, leading him to join the university’s drama society.

To further hone his craft, he attended the Professional Theatre Training Program at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in 2000.

Chukwudi Iwuji began his professional acting journey in 2001 with the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC), where he performed in classical plays like Julius Caesar and Hamlet. In 2002, he played Fenton in The Merry Wives of Windsor and Aufidius in Coriolanus.

His breakthrough role came in 2006, when he portrayed Henry VI in the RSC’s revival of This England: The Histories. His performance was widely acclaimed, and the production won the Olivier Award for Best Revival.

Film and Television Career

Iwuji made a successful transition to television and film. His notable TV appearances include:

  • The Underground Railroad (2021)
  • The Split (2018–2022)
  • Peacemaker (2022), where he played Clemson Murn

He also appeared in the Hollywood action film John Wick: Chapter 2 (2017).

In 2023, he gained global recognition for playing the High Evolutionary in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, where his performance as the villain was widely praised.
