EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND

He pursued his secondary education at Corona College in Lagos. He later attended the University of Reading, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Economics in 2007, followed by a Master’s degree in International Banking and Financial Services in 2008.
CAREER

Ekpenyong’s career began as a financial analyst in Lagos. He then lectured in the Banking and Finance Department at the University of Calabar for two years. In 2010, he founded Iquasu Ventures Limited, a haulage and logistics company, and subsequently became Managing Director of Chamley Bureau de Change Limited, licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria. He also served as Executive Director for Finance at Pearland Energy and was a board member of Ekondo Microfinance Bank Limited.
Political Career
In December 2015, at the age of 29, Ekpenyong was appointed Commissioner for Finance in Cross River State by Governor Benedict Ayade, making him the youngest commissioner in Nigeria at that time. He held this position until March 2022, during which he also briefly served as Commissioner for Transport and Marine Services between October 2018 and May 2019. In May 2022, he secured the All Progressives Congress (APC) nomination for the Cross River South Senatorial District and was elected as Senator in June 2023. He currently chairs the Senate Committee on the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).
In January 2025, Ekpenyong was honored as one of Nigeria’s most promising young leaders during THISDAY’s 30th Anniversary Awards.
