
Ndemupelila Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah (born 29 October 1952), popularly known as NNN, is a Namibian politician serving as the fifth and current President of Namibia since 21 March 2025. She holds the distinction of being the country’s first female president. Prior to her presidency, she served as Namibia’s third Vice President under President Nangolo Mbumba from 2024 to 2025.

NETUMBO NANDI-NDAITWAH BIOGRAPHY

Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah was born on 29 October 1952 in Onamutai village near the border of Ohangwena and Oshana regions. She is the ninth of 13 children born to Justina Nekoto Shaduka-Nandi and Petrus Nandi. Her father was an Anglican clergyman who instilled strong values in the family.
EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND

Nandi-Ndaitwah attended St. Mary’s Mission School in Odibo for her early education. In 1974, she joined Namibia’s liberation struggle under SWAPO, which took her into exile. During this period, she continued her studies, obtaining a Diploma in Public Administration and Management from the United Nations Institute for Namibia (UNIN) in Lusaka, Zambia. Later, she earned a Master’s degree in Diplomatic Studies from Keele University in the United Kingdom (1994).
CAREER

After Namibia gained independence in 1990, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah was appointed to several high-profile government positions:

CONTROVERSIES

While Nandi-Ndaitwah has largely maintained a clean image, her opposition to abortion has stirred debate in Namibia, particularly among women’s rights activists. Internally within SWAPO, her rise to the presidency was met with some resistance from factions critical of the party’s leadership selection process. Despite this, there are no known allegations of corruption or personal misconduct against her.

She is married to Epaphras Denga Ndaitwah, the former Chief of the Namibian Defence Force. Together, they have children and share a deep commitment to national service.
Outside politics, she has a passion for children’s community work and reading. She is also known for her strong pro-life stance and has been a vocal opponent of abortion in Namibia.
