Educational Background
Sana started school in Bouaké before continuing his education in Burkina Faso. He finished secondary school in the Centre-East region and earned a degree in Science. He then went to the University of Ouagadougou, where he got a Master’s degree in Economic Science, with a focus on planning.
In 2009, he joined the national police after passing the competitive exam and trained to become a police commissioner. He also studied international relations at the Institute of Advanced International Studies and completed security training programs.
Career
Sana’s career in the security sector spans many years and roles. In 2011, he became head of the operational office in the intelligence division of the Burkina National Police. By 2015, he was in charge of state security for the Centre region.
He later led the special police team at the Ouagadougou International Airport in 2017 and also worked as a trainer at the National Police School. After that, he led the trainer development unit at the National Police Academy.
He was later appointed as head of the Documentation Department at the National Intelligence Agency. In 2022, he rose to the position of Deputy Director General of the same agency. Later that year, he was made Minister Delegate for Security under the Ministry of Territorial Administration.
Controversies
Sana made headlines when he exposed an alleged plan to overthrow the government led by Captain Ibrahim Traoré. In a national broadcast, he said that some retired and active soldiers were plotting a coup with the help of terrorist groups. According to him, the plan involved using religious and community leaders to sway military support.
He claimed the attackers planned to strike on April 16, 2025 and were passing military information to the terrorists. Sana said the operation was being directed from Ivory Coast, although the Ivorian government has not publicly responded. Several people, including army officers, were arrested in connection with the incident. This was one of a few reported coup attempts since Traore took over leadership in 2022.
