Educational Background

David Ibiyeomie began his early education at Banham Primary School and later attended Government Comprehensive Secondary School in Borikiri, both in Rivers State. In 1980, he gained admission into the University of Science and Technology, Port Harcourt. After that, he attended the Word of Faith Bible Institute (WOFBI), a Bible school founded by Bishop David Oyedepo, where he received his pastoral training.
Career

After completing his Bible training, Pastor Ibiyeomie started a small house fellowship with his family in Victoria Island, Lagos. Not long after, he moved to Port Harcourt, where he launched Salvation Ministries (originally called Glorious Chapel) on April 13, 1997, starting with just over 20 people.
Within a few months, the church moved to a bigger space. By 2017, the church headquarters had grown to welcome about 50,000 people every Sunday. In February 2011, Salvation Ministries expanded by opening 14 satellite churches in one day—each holding five services every Sunday. Over the years, Ibiyeomie also became known through TV broadcasts and authored several Christian books.
Controversies

David Ibiyeomie has found himself in the middle of public criticism several times. In January 2017, he was accused of making offensive comments about the Ogoni people, prompting the Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People (MOSOP) to demand an apology.
That same year, controversial journalist Kemi Olunloyo alleged that he was in a romantic relationship with Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo. She was later arrested for defamation, though Ibiyeomie denied the affair.
In recent years, Pastor Ibiyeomie has come under fire for threatening to arrest bloggers and journalists who speak negatively about him or his church. In a widely circulated video, he warned that no one should share his sermons online without permission whether the content was positive or negative. He also accused some church members of leaking sermons to media outlets and said he would not hesitate to use law enforcement against those involved.
Social media critic Verydarkman responded publicly, calling out the pastor for misusing his influence to silence critics and warning that such actions would not be tolerated in countries with stronger rule of law. Additionally, Pastor Ibiyeomie once sparked backlash when he claimed that Jesus never associated with the poor, a statement many Christians disagreed with, saying it went against Biblical teachings.
