Educational Background

Professor Ojerinde began his academic journey at Wesley College, Ibadan, where he earned a Teacher Grade II Certificate in 1964. He continued to Adeyemi College of Education and obtained the Nigeria Certificate in Education (N.C.E) in 1968.
He then went to Obafemi Awolowo University (then University of Ife), where he received a B.Sc. in Education in 1973 and a Master’s degree in 1975. His academic journey took him abroad to Cornell University in New York, USA, where he completed a Ph.D. in Educational Measurement in 1978. In 1986, he became Nigeria’s first Professor of Tests and Measurement.
Career

Ojerinde started his teaching career in 1965 at Laogun Methodist Grammar School. He later taught at Ibadan Iseyin District Grammar School and College of Advanced Studies in Kano. He joined Obafemi Awolowo University in 1973 and became Director of the Institute of Education in 1984, serving until 1990.
He then moved into government service, starting as Director of Monitoring and Evaluation at the National Primary Education Commission in 1990. He later served as Director at the Centre for Educational Measurement under the Federal Ministry of Education.
In 1992, he became the Registrar of the National Board for Educational Measurement (NBEM), and after seven years, he moved on to head the National Examination Council (NECO) from 1999 to 2007. Following this, he became the Registrar of JAMB in 2007 and served until 2012. He was reappointed that same year.
Controversies

Since 2021, Dibu Ojerinde has been in the spotlight for the wrong reasons. The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) charged him with mismanaging ₦5.2 billion while serving as Registrar at JAMB and NECO. The charges include fraud, abuse of office, and diversion of public funds.
He was arraigned in court in July 2021 on 18 counts and pleaded not guilty. In 2022, he attempted a plea bargain through his lawyer, but the deal did not work out. In 2025, a Federal High Court ruled that he had a case to answer, and the trial is ongoing. His four children are also being investigated in connection with the case.
