EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND

Usman Alhaji began his education at a primary school in Gaya in 1956. He proceeded to Government College Birnin Kudu for his secondary education from 1962 to 1966. He then attended Rumfa College, Kano, completing his higher school certificate between 1967 and 1968.
He gained admission into Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Linguistics/Hausa from 1969 to 1973. Later, he furthered his studies in the United States, obtaining a Master’s degree in Educational Planning and Administration from Ohio University in 1977.
CAREER

Alhaji Usman Alhaji started his professional career as a teacher in Kano after his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) program between 1973 and 1974. He taught at various institutions, including the Institute for Higher Education, and worked with the Hadejia-Jama’are River Basin Development Authority from 1980 to 1984.
Between 1985 and 1987, he served as the Director-General of the Kano Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (KACCIMA), contributing significantly to the development of commerce and industry in the state.
His political journey began in earnest in the early 1990s, when he became the National Secretary of the National Republican Convention (NRC) between 1990 and 1993. He was appointed Kano State Commissioner of Education under Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso from 1999 to 2003. In 2015, he was a gubernatorial aspirant under the All Progressives Congress (APC) but stepped down in favor of Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.
