Educational Background

Imasuen began his education at St. Thomas’ Catholic School in Benin City, Edo State, and completed his secondary education at Edo Boys High School. He studied law at the University of Maiduguri, earning a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) degree. He became a certified Solicitor and Advocate of the Supreme Court of Nigeria in 1985. Career

In 2023, he ran for the Senate under the Labour Party and won, defeating candidates from both the PDP and APC. Controversies

Senator Imasuen has been surrounded by a few controversies. In 2010, he was disbarred by the New York State Supreme Court after being found guilty of misconduct in a legal case involving an American client. He was accused of failing to represent the client despite collecting legal fees.
More recently, Sahara Reporters alleged that Imasuen and Senator Victor Umeh were involved in organizing a meeting where senators were allegedly paid between $5,000 to $10,000 to support a proposal from President Bola Tinubu regarding the Rivers State crisis.
In early 2025, his committee also played a role in the controversial six-month suspension of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, after she accused Senate President Akpabio of sexual misconduct.
