SOLOMON DALUNG BIOGRAPHY

Born on September 26, 1964, in Sabo Gida, a town in Langtang South Local Government Area of Plateau State, Nigeria. He hails from the Tarok ethnic group.
EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND

He began his primary education at LEA Primary School, Sabo Gida (1971–1977), before proceeding to Government College Keffi in Nasarawa State for his secondary education.
In 1982, he joined the Nigerian Prisons Service, where he began his career in public service. While working, he pursued higher education and earned a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from the University of Jos in 2000. He was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2001 after completing his studies at the Nigerian Law School. He later obtained a Master’s degree in Law (LLM) from the University of Jos in 2007.
CAREER

Dalung began his professional career in the Nigerian Prisons Service, where he rose to the rank of Assistant Inspector of Prisons before retiring in 2004. He then transitioned into academia and served as a lecturer in law at the University of Jos.
His political career began when he served as Personal Assistant to Chief Solomon Lar, the first executive governor of Plateau State and a founding father of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). Dalung later became the Chairman of Langtang South Local Government Area from 2007 to 2008, and he also served as the Chairman of the Plateau State chapter of ALGON (Association of Local Governments of Nigeria).
In November 2015, Dalung was appointed Minister of Youth and Sports Development by President Muhammadu Buhari, a role he held until May 2019. After leaving the federal cabinet, Dalung remained politically active. He resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC) in April 2022, citing conflicts with the party’s principles. He then joined the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and contested for a seat in the House of Representatives in the 2023 general elections, though he lost the election.
CONTROVERSIES

In 2022, after leaving APC, he was suspended from the SDP for alleged anti-party activities, including making statements and taking actions that were deemed damaging to the party’s interest during the 2023 elections.
He also gained attention for his outspoken criticism of political leadership, accusing “cabals” of hijacking President Buhari’s administration after the 2015 elections and making similar claims under President Tinubu’s tenure.
