CATHERINE UJU IFEJIKE BIOGRAPHY
Born on 28 October 1959 in Opobo, Rivers State, Nigeria, to Chief Clifford Ogwu and Elizabeth Ikpeze, both originally from Ogidi in present-day Anambra State.
EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND
Ifejika began her formal education at the University Primary School in Nsukka. She proceeded to Queen’s School, Enugu, for her secondary education. She furthered her studies at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, where she earned a Diploma in Law and a Bachelor of Laws (LLB Hons.) degree in 1985. She was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1986.
CAREER
Uju began her legal career with Texaco Nigeria Plc during her National Youth Service. She officially joined the company in 1987 as a Junior Counsel and rose through the ranks to become Acting Chief Counsel by 1991. By 1997, she had become the Company Secretary and Manager of Public and Government Affairs. In 2003, she was appointed to the same role for Texaco’s West African operations.
In 2007, she became the Chairperson/CEO of Brittania-U Nigeria Limited (BUNL), an indigenous petroleum company involved in upstream oil exploration and production. She later established Brittania-U Ghana Limited (BUGL). Under her leadership, the company acquired and developed the Ajapa Marginal Field, which has an estimated worth of $4.3 billion.
She also founded other companies in the oil and gas sector, including Data Appraisal Co. Ltd and Nexttee Oil & Gas Trading Co.
