He officially became king in November 2019, two years after the passing of his predecessor, Oba James Adedokun Adegoke. Before ascending the throne, Oloyede had built a career as a tax consultant and academic in both Nigeria and the United States.

Court documents revealed that Oloyede and an associate submitted false loan applications between 2020 and 2022 under U.S. government COVID-19 relief programmes. He pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit wire fraud, money laundering, and filing false tax returns.
