Idonije began his early education in Otuo before moving on to Holy Trinity Grammar School in Sabongida Ora, where he earned his Cambridge School Certificate. He later attended Yaba College of Technology in Lagos, studying Communications Engineering.
Career
His career started as far back as the 1950s when he began writing jazz columns and music pieces for newspapers such as the Morning Post in 1953. In 1957, he joined the Nigerian Broadcasting Corporation (now FRCN) as an Engineering Assistant. By 1960, his passion for music and broadcasting saw him switch fully into presenting. He became the voice behind popular shows like The Big Beat and Stereo Jazz Club, which gained him a loyal audience.
Idonije later rose to become Principal Lecturer and Training Officer at the FRCN Training School, a position he held for about eight years before retiring from broadcasting in 1992.
