Otunba (Engr.) Olugbenga Justus Daniel was born on April 6, 1956, in Ibadan, present-day Oyo State, Nigeria. He hails from Sagamu in Ogun State, where he spent much of his formative years.
EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND

Gbenga Daniel attended Baptist Boys’ High School, Abeokuta, for his secondary education. He proceeded to the School of Basic Studies, The Polytechnic Ibadan, before gaining admission to the University of Lagos, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering. Over the years, he also participated in several executive and leadership programmes, including courses at the Lagos Business School.
CAREER

Gbenga Daniel began his professional career as a lecturer at Lagos State Polytechnic during his National Youth Service. He later worked with Metal Construction (West Africa) Limited and H.F. Schroeder West Africa Limited, where he rose to become the first Nigerian Deputy Managing Director of the company.
In 1990, he founded Kresta Laurel Limited, an electro-mechanical engineering company that grew into one of Nigeria’s leading indigenous engineering firms. He also ventured into hospitality with the establishment of Conference Hotels and Suites across Ogun State and Lagos.
Daniel entered politics in the early 2000s and was elected Governor of Ogun State in 2003 under the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). He served two terms (2003–2011). After leaving office, he remained active in national politics and later defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2021. In 2023, he was elected Senator representing Ogun East Senatorial District.
