
Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo is a Nigerian politician and accountant. He was born on 4 April 1962 in Gombe State, Nigeria. He is well known for his long service in public finance and governance. Dankwambo served as the Governor of Gombe State from 2011 to 2019 and is currently the Senator representing Gombe North Senatorial District, a position he assumed in June 2023. He is a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Educational Background

Dankwambo studied Accounting at Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, where he graduated in 1985. He later obtained a Master’s degree in Economics from the University of Lagos in 1992. He went further to earn a PhD in Accounting from Igbinedion University. His academic background laid the foundation for his career in accounting and public finance.
Career

Dankwambo began his professional career in 1985 at Coopers & Lybrand, an international accounting firm. In 1988, he joined the Central Bank of Nigeria, where he worked until 1999. He later became the Accountant-General of Gombe State, a role he held until 2005.
On 20 April 2005, he was appointed Accountant-General of the Federation, one of the highest financial positions in Nigeria. He also served on the Board of the Central Bank of Nigeria during this period.
In 2011, Dankwambo resigned from his role as Accountant-General to contest the Gombe State governorship election. He won and served two terms as governor from 2011 to 2019.
In 2023, he returned to active politics and was elected Senator for Gombe North, defeating the incumbent senator.
