ANTHONY PLACID BIOGRAPHY
Anthony Okon Placid was born on December 2, 1970, in Uyo, the capital of Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. He hails from Mbiokporo Nsit in Nsit Ibom Local Government Area of the state.
EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND
Placid pursued higher education in Nigeria and obtained several academic qualifications. He earned a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Geography and Regional Planning from the University of Uyo. He later obtained a Master of Arts in Law and Diplomacy from the University of Jos.
In addition, he studied law at the National Open University of Nigeria, where he earned a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) degree. Over the years, he has also attended numerous professional and international training programmes, including the United Nations Peace Operations Specialised Training and the UNITAR Senior Leadership and Peacebuilding Course in Kenya.
CAREER
Anthony Placid joined the Nigeria Police Force in 1996 as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police at the Nigeria Police Academy in Kano. He was officially commissioned into the force in August 1998. Throughout his career, he has held several strategic positions both within Nigeria and internationally, including:
- Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Adamawa State
- PPRO, Police Staff College, Jos
- Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Federal Housing Calabar, Bakassi, Uruan, and Gembu
- Officer-in-Charge of the Anti-Robbery Unit in Kaduna State
- Assistant Commissioner of Police (Operations) in Akwa Ibom and Kogi States
- Assistant Commissioner of Police, Intelligence Department in Abia State
- Deputy in charge of Administration and Finance, Zone 3 Headquarters, Yola
Placid also served internationally as Chief of Training for the African Union Mission in Sudan and Head of Training and Development for the United Nations Mission in Darfur, as well as an African Union Election Security Adviser.
In March 2026, the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, appointed him as the Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO) of the Nigeria Police Force, replacing Benjamin Hundeyin.
