Educational Background

Dayo Israel educational background

Dayo attended Methodist Boys High School in Lagos from 1995 to 2001, where he obtained his secondary school certificate. In 2004, the then-Governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, awarded him a scholarship to study Law at London Metropolitan University, a career path he said was inspired by the late legal activist Gani Fawehinmi. He earned his LLB Law degree from London Met in 2009 and went on to complete a Master of Arts in International Relations from the same university in 2010.

While at London Metropolitan University, he made history as the first African to serve as Student Council Chair of the institution, holding the position from 2007 to 2008. He also holds diploma certificates from Harvard Business School Executive Education, Cambridge Judge Business School, and the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.

Career

Even before university, Dayo had already cut a remarkable public figure. At age 14, he was elected into the Nigerian Children’s Parliament. He rose to become Deputy Senate President of the National Children’s Parliament a position he held until 2005. At 16, he chaired the Presidential Summit of Nigerian Children and led the Nigerian Children’s delegation to the United Nations Special Session on Children in New York City, where he was featured live on CNN and Nickelodeon with former UNICEF Executive Director Carol Bellamy. He also co-chaired the children’s side event at the UN World Summit on Sustainable Development in Johannesburg in 2002, and the World Media Briefing at the UN Children’s World Water Forum in Japan in 2003.

After returning from London, Dayo built an extensive career that spanned UN consultancy, media, politics, and international diplomacy. He worked as Senior Special Assistant to a Senator of the Federal Republic, and served as Regional Director of the GLEEHD Foundation, overseeing African operations and helping drive trade and investment between Africa and the West. He also served as Director of Africa Operations at the Commonwealth Africa Initiative.

He is the producer and host of the Dayo Israel Show, syndicated across Europe and Africa on multiple platforms. He has made media appearances on CNN, BBC World Service, BBC Network Africa, Iranian Press TV, Daystar Christian Broadcasting Network, Nickelodeon, and NTA Newsline, among others. He is also the author of several books including Journey to Greatness, Audacity to Run, Ready to Run, and Run to Win.

His most recent political milestone came at the APC National Convention held at Eagles Square, Abuja, where he was elected as the APC National Youth Leader the first from the South West to hold the position after it was zoned to that region. He emerged through a consensus arrangement after four other co-contestants stepped down for him.

In recognition of his extraordinary contributions, Dayo was named one of the 100 Most Influential People of African Descent (Under 40) as part of the 2017 UN Decade celebrations for people of African descent. He has also been received at Buckingham Palace following recognition from Queen Elizabeth II and the Duke of Edinburgh. His awards include the British Red Cross Humanitarian Citizen Award, PEWA Award, GAB Award, Icon of Hope Award, and Young Achievers Award, among many others.

Controversies

Dayo Israel Controversies

Dayo Israel sparked debate after announcing plans to mobilise 10 million youth votes for Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 elections. One major criticism is around the realism of the target. Some political observers and young Nigerians questioned whether such a large number is achievable, especially considering rising concerns about unemployment, economic hardship, and voter apathy among youths.

There have also been concerns about the use of youth mobilisation groups, such as the Jagaban Army. Critics argue that such movements could promote political loyalty over independent thinking, while supporters see them as a normal part of grassroots political engagement.

In addition, opposition voices have suggested that focusing heavily on vote mobilisation without addressing key youth issues like jobs, education, and security may not be enough to secure genuine support.

Dayo Israel is a committed Christian and has served as an Apostolic Leader at Rehoboth Ministries International since 1997. He is widely known for combining faith, advocacy, and entrepreneurship in his public work. Dayo grew up on Jebba Street, Oyingbo, Ebute-Metta, Lagos. After losing his father, he and his mother faced financial hardship, and he hawked shoes and African wears to support the family.

Rather than being defeated by his circumstances, the young Dayo channelled his energy into activism. At just eight years old, he began volunteering with the Civil Liberties Organisation (CLO). At twelve, he founded what is believed to be the first child-led NGO in Nigeria General Action Against the Violation of Human and Children’s Rights which spearheaded campaigns for children’s rights across the country.
