Growing up in a household deeply intertwined with the film industry, Charan is the grandson of the iconic comedian Allu Ramalingaiah. He is also the nephew of actor-politician Pawan Kalyan and producer Nagendra Babu, and a first cousin to fellow superstar Allu Arjun.

EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND

EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND

Charan completed his primary schooling at the Padma Seshadri Bala Bhavan School in Chennai. Later, when his family shifted base, he pursued his higher education in Hyderabad.

CAREER

CAREER

Charan made a commercially successful acting debut in 2007 with Puri Jagannadh’s action film Chirutha, earning the Filmfare Award for Best South Debut. His sophomore project, SS Rajamouli’s epic reincarnation fantasy Magadheera (2009), blew past industry records to become the highest-grossing Telugu film of its time, turning him into an overnight superstar.

He built a robust filmography with hits like Dhruva (2016) and the critically acclaimed, rustic period drama Rangasthalam (2018). In 2022, his portrayal of the fierce revolutionary Alluri Sitarama Raju in SS Rajamouli’s RRR skyrocketed him to international fame. The movie achieved widespread global success and won an Academy Award for its song “Naatu Naatu”.

Following political thriller Game Changer, Charan completely reinvented himself physically for the highly anticipated sports action drama Peddi (released June 4, 2026). Directed by Buchi Babu Sana and co-starring Janhvi Kapoor, the film shattered box office records on its opening day, raking in over ₹135 crore globally and cementing his status as a box-office giant.

Beyond acting, Charan founded Konidela Production Company, producing several successful films for his father. He also owns the polo team Ram Charan Hyderabad Polo Riding Club and has been a prominent stakeholder in regional aviation ventures.

CONTROVERSIES

CONTROVERSIES

Early in his career, Charan was involved in a widely publicized controversy when two software engineers accused his security detail of assaulting them on a Hyderabad roadside following a traffic dispute. While the incident triggered heavy media scrutiny regarding celebrity privilege, the tech professionals eventually chose not to file formal police charges, resolving the matter quietly.

In 2013, Charan made his direct Bollywood debut in Zanjeer, a remake of Amitabh Bachchan’s legendary 1973 film. The movie received overwhelmingly negative reviews from critics, and Charan faced intense criticism for his performance. He chose to step back from Hindi cinema for nearly a decade to focus exclusively on Telugu films before RRR redeemed his pan-Indian appeal.
