Career

Joseph Tegbe began his career as a system engineer at the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation during his NYSC year, followed by a stint as Head of Materials Accounting at Shell Petroleum Development Company in 1991. He joined Arthur Andersen Business Consulting in 1989 before moving to KPMG in 2001, where he spent over two decades rising to Senior Partner and Head of Advisory Services for KPMG in Nigeria and Africa, also serving as KPMG’s Africa Lead for Cybersecurity and Public Sector, and Technology practices.
He led transformation projects for major Nigerian institutions including the NCC, NIMC, BPE, and FIRS. In September 2024, he was appointed Director-General and Global Liaison for the Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership. On April 30, 2026, President Tinubu nominated him as Minister of Power, a nomination pending Senate confirmation.
Controversies

Joseph Tegbe’s foray into elective politics in 2018 generated significant controversy when he entered the APC primary race for the Oyo State governorship, positioning himself as a credible technocrat to succeed the late Senator Abiola Ajimobi. He withdrew during the primary process to support eventual candidate Adebayo Adelabu, a decision that drew mixed reactions from supporters who felt he had genuine momentum.
As Minister of Power-designate, he now faces the considerable challenge of Nigeria’s chronic electricity crisis, where installed capacity exceeds 12,000 megawatts but actual delivery to homes and businesses remains a fraction of that figure due to transmission constraints and liquidity problems across the sector.
