Zohran Kwame Mamdani was born on October 18, 1991, in Kampala, Uganda. He is the only child of renowned Ugandan academic Mahmood Mamdani and acclaimed Indian-American filmmaker Mira Nair. His father is of Gujarati Muslim heritage, while his mother is of Punjabi Hindu heritage.
