HENRY DESAGU BIOGRAPHY

Ithagu Kibicho was born in Lanet, Nakuru County, Kenya. From childhood, he showed an interest in performing and comedy. He participated in funny performances at church events, school functions and social gatherings, long before becoming a professional entertainer. His parents initially wanted him to pursue a conventional white-collar career. According to Desagu, his late father struggled to understand his decision to pursue comedy, particularly because of the unusual characters and oversized clothing he sometimes used in his videos.
EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND

Desagu attended Menengai High School for his secondary education. He subsequently joined Kenyatta University, where he pursued a Bachelor’s degree in Economics.
CAREER

Desagu’s professional comedy journey developed while he was at Kenyatta University. He joined theatre and participated in auditions but encountered numerous challenges and rejections. Rather than abandoning entertainment, he turned to vlogging and online comedy.
He joined YouTube on August 10, 2016, initially viewing the platform mainly as a place to store his videos. His first major viral video was a humorous Team Mafisi press conference, which unexpectedly attracted a large audience. Desagu became one of Kenya’s early prominent digital comedians. His videos focused heavily on everyday social situations, relationships, dating, “sponsors,” slay queens and the struggles faced by ordinary young Kenyans.
His ability to combine satire with real-life situations helped his videos become highly shareable. He became popularly associated with the nickname “Prince of Mwihoko”. One of Desagu’s most recognizable creations was Team Mafisi Sacco. The concept was developed as a humorous response to the growing Kenyan social-media conversation about young women dating older, wealthier men popularly referred to as “sponsors.” In 2019, he received the YouTube Silver Creator Award, which recognizes creators who reach 100,000 subscribers.
CONTROVERSIES

Desagu’s comedy has sometimes generated debate because of his satirical treatment of relationships, sponsors and gender issues. His Team Mafisi Sacco content in particular was deliberately provocative, using humor to comment on relationships between young women and older wealthy men.
