
Senator Barau I. Jibrin, born 19 June 1959, is a Nigerian politician, accountant, businessman and legislator who currently serves as the Deputy President of the Nigerian Senate. He has represented Kano North Senatorial District in the Senate since 2015 and is a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC). He previously represented Tarauni Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives from 1999 to 2003.

Barau I. Jibrin was born on 19 June 1959 in Kabo, Kano State, Nigeria. He grew up in Kano and developed an interest in business, finance and public affairs. Before entering national politics, Jibrin established himself in the private sector.
EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND

Barau Jibrin studied Accounting at university and subsequently obtained several postgraduate qualifications. His academic qualifications include a master’s degree in Financial Management and Pricing, a master’s degree in Management and a Master of Business Administration (MBA).

Political Career
Barau Jibrin began his legislative career in 1999, when he was elected to the House of Representatives to represent Tarauni Federal Constituency of Kano State. As Deputy Senate President, he has been involved in legislative matters concerning education, agriculture, the economy, youth development and women’s empowerment. He also serves as the First Deputy Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament. Beyond politics, Jibrin is the founder of Barau FC, a football club based in Kano that has risen through the Nigerian football system.
