Forson began his basic education at Bethel Hill D/A Basic School and attended Bisease Secondary School for his secondary education. He later earned a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from London South Bank University. He holds two Master’s degrees—M.Sc. in Economics from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and M.Sc. in Taxation from the University of Oxford. In September 2020, he obtained his Ph.D. in Finance (Business and Management) from KNUST. CAREER

Cassiel Ato Forson entered politics in 2009 when he was elected Member of Parliament (MP) for Ajumako-Enyan-Esiam Constituency, a seat he has retained through multiple elections.
From March 2013 to January 2017, he served as Deputy Minister for Finance, overseeing budget preparation, debt management, external resources, and tax policy. He also represented Ghana as Alternate Governor to the IMF and served on the boards of the Bank of Ghana and COCOBOD.
In January 2023, he became Minority Leader in Parliament, a position he held until January 2025. Following the return of John Dramani Mahama to the presidency, he was appointed Minister for Finance and Economic Planning on 22 January 2025. In this role, Forson has spearheaded significant fiscal reforms, IMF program negotiations, and legislative initiatives such as the Public Financial Management Act and the GoldBod Bill.
CONTROVERSIES

Forson was implicated in a legal case involving an alleged financial loss to the state over the procurement of ambulances during his tenure as Deputy Finance Minister. He maintained his innocence throughout the proceedings. In July 2024, the Court of Appeal acquitted him, ruling that there was no prima facie case against him.
