Born on May 10, 1966, in Atuabo, a small coastal town in the Ellembelle District of Ghana’s Western Region. He lost his father at an early age and was raised by his mother under modest circumstances.
EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND
Buah began his education in the Western Region of Ghana before advancing to the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Social Science with a Law major. He furthered his studies in the United States at the University of Maryland (University College), obtaining a Master of Science in Management. He also earned a Graduate Diploma in Law from The University of Law in the United Kingdom.
CAREER
Buah entered national politics in 2009 as the Member of Parliament for Ellembelle Constituency, a seat he has retained through multiple re-elections. That same year, President John Atta Mills appointed him Deputy Minister of Energy, where he played a crucial role in creating the Ghana Gas Task Force and establishing the Ghana National Gas Company.
In January 2013, under President John Dramani Mahama, Buah was elevated to Minister for Energy and Petroleum, a role he held until January 2017. During his tenure, he oversaw significant oil and gas projects including the TEN oil fields, the Sankofa-Gye Nyame Project, and the ENI OCTP Gas Project.
