Educational Background

Benson Agadaga began his education at St. Luke’s School, Ologoghe, where he completed his primary schooling between 1960 and 1967. He later attended St. Michael High School, Oloibiri, for his secondary education from 1969 to 1970.
He proceeded to the Rivers State College of Education, Port Harcourt, between 1976 and 1979. His quest for higher education continued at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, from 1981 to 1983.
Between 1998 and 2000, he studied at the University of Calabar, and later enrolled at the Federal University of Technology, Owerri, where he studied from 2000 to 2004. In 2006, he obtained a Master of Business Administration (MBA) and a Postgraduate Diploma in Human Resource Management.
Career

Before entering politics, Agadaga built a strong career in education. He served as Principal of Community Secondary School (C.S.S), Kolo, from 1988 to 1993. He later became Principal of Government Girls’ Secondary School (G.G.S), Ukubie, between 1995 and 1996, and then C.S.S, Zarama, from 1996 to 1998.
He later joined the Bayelsa State Government as Special Adviser on Establishment during the administration of Governor Seriake Dickson. In 2019, he announced his intention to contest for the governorship of Bayelsa State but later withdrew from the race.
On 20 February 2020, he was appointed Chief of Staff to Governor Douye Diri, a position he held until 2022. He resigned to contest for the Bayelsa East Senatorial seat and won the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) primary election. In the 25 February 2023 senatorial election, Agadaga defeated the incumbent senator, Fremieyo Degi of the APC, to emerge as Senator for Bayelsa East.
Benson Agadaga was elected into the Senate under the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). In October 2025, he officially defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing internal party disagreements and lack of inclusiveness within the PDP.
Controversies

Agadaga has largely stayed away from major personal scandals. However, his defection from the PDP to the APC in 2025 generated political debate, especially among party loyalists in Bayelsa State. He explained that his decision was based on unresolved internal crises within his former party.
