Health Benefits of Avocado

Avocado pear is one of the most common fruits in the tropical region. Avocado is said to have originated from south central Mexico. Avocado pear is also known as Alligator pear. The botanical name of avocado pear is Persea americana. Just like every other fruits, avocado pear has its health benefits.

1. Avocado pear is nutritious

Avocado is priced for its high nutrient value, good flavour and rich texture. Nutrients found in abundance in avocado pear are folate, vitamins B5, B6,C,E and K. Nutrients in small quantity are magnesium, manganese, copper, iron, zinc, phosphorous and vitamins A, B1 (thiamine), B2 (riboflavin) and B3 (niacin).

2. Avocado is good for the heart

Avocado pear contains high amount of monounsaturated oleic acid, which is said reduce inflammation of the heart. Oleic acid has been associated with reduced inflammation and shown to have beneficial effects on genes linked to cancer. Avocado lowers cholesterol and triglyceride level in the body.

3. Avocado aids digestion

Avocado pear contains high soluble fibre content which responsible for feeding the friendly gut bacteria which is responsible for optimal body function and digestion. The fat content of avocado pear helps absorb nutrients especially the fat soluble vitamins (A,D,E,K).

4. Avocado is good for the eyes

Avocado are antioxidants thus are rich in carotenoids lutein and zeaxanthin, which are incredibly important for eye health. Avocado  reduce risk of cataracts and macular degeneration.

5. Avocado can help you loose weight

Studies have shown that those who eat avocado has 28% lower chances of eating in the next five hours compared to those who ate without avocado. Thus including avocado in your diet means eating fewer calories daily. Avocado has high fibre and carbs, the two have been proven to contribute to weight loss
