Health Benefits Of Sugar

When looking at sugar in this work, we are looking at the refined white sugar which is mostly used as a sweetener. Because sugar contains four calories per gram but lacks nutritious value (i.e no dietary fibers), it is only an added ingredient in many meals.

Although, there is more knowledge on the disadvantages on high sugar intake, however when taken moderately, they could be beneficial to the body. Here are benefits of sugar.

1. Quick source of energy:

Sugar has a high calorie content that provides the body immediately with energy that it lacks. However, the energy gotten from its consumption does not last as it gives only short bust of increased productivity.

2. Lees processed:

Sugar unlike other sweeteners like the high fructose corn syrup used by many, consists only from natural ingredients that can be processed easily by metabolism.

3. Contains some minerals and nutrients:

In the refining process of sugar, some nutrients are passed or retained from their natural sources such as sugarcanes or beet such as calcium, magnesium, iron, potassium and phosphorus will be present in sugars. However, this is not on a large level.

4. Diabetes:

This has always been a point out as a disadvantage of sugar intake. However, scientists have proven that diabetes is a genetic condition that is created from the moment man is born. Therefore, eating bad foods and lots of sugary things and fats can only decrease the efficiency of the pancreas but in moderate use, there are no health risks.

5. Skin health:

Sugar’s glycolic acid can be very helpful in maintaining the health and look of the skin. It helps in the elimination of blemishes and also restores the balance in the skin’s oils.
