He retired as a lieutenant colonel on September 30, 2010, after serving in the Albarka army for 29 years and 4 months. During his military career, he attended various military and civilian courses and seminars both nationally and internationally. Abdulaziz held many military positions and received several awards for his experience.

After retiring from the military, Abdulaziz entered politics, joining the CPC party in 2010 to 2013 and later registering with the APC party in 2014. He ran for the governorship and the Katsina Federal Assembly seat in 2015 but was unsuccessful. In 2019, he contested for the senatorial seat representing Katsina Central but was also unsuccessful. In February 2022, President Muhammadu Buhari appointed him as the chairman of the Rural Electrification Agency of Nigeria, which he later left to stand for the Katsina Central Senatorial election. Abdulaziz won the Katsina Central Senatorial election announced by INEC on February 27, 2023.
