Educational Background
Adeola Solomon Olamilekan attended State Primary School and Community Grammar School for his secondary education. He then pursued a Higher National Diploma in Accounting at the Ondo State Polytechnic.
Career
Adeola is a chartered accountant and a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN). He worked for 12 years at The Guardian Newspapers Limited before joining Olatunji Omoyeni & Co, where he became a senior auditor. He later established his own company, SOOTEM Nigeria Limited, specializing in tax consultancy.
Adeola’s political career began in 2003 when he was elected to represent Alimosho State Constituency 2 in the Lagos State House of Assembly. He served two terms and was instrumental in passing legislation that strengthened the Lagos State Internal Revenue Service, increasing the state’s revenue from N5 billion to over N20 billion.
In 2011, Adeola was elected to the Nigerian House of Representatives and was appointed as the Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee. He was later elected as a Senator representing Lagos West in the 2019 general elections and was conferred with the Nigerian national honor of Commander Of The Order Of The Niger in October 2022.
Controversies
The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) South-West, Zone D, criticized Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, the Senator representing Lagos West Senatorial District, for his recent call on the Nigerian government to stop funding government-owned universities. Adeola Solomon Olamilekan suggested that the government reconsider funding these institutions, including their salaries and recurrent expenses.
Adeola Solomon Olamilekan urged students to inquire about how internal funds generated by their schools were being spent. Adeola claimed that some government-owned universities generated up to N17 billion but spent the money without justification. The NANS South-West, Zone D, has condemned Adeola’s statement. This made him so controversial, with a lot of people against his statement.
