Sodiq Adebayo, a filmmaker and producer who worked closely with Murphy Afolabi, confirmed that the actor had been ill for some time and had been discharged from the hospital two days before his passing. Murphy Afolabi had just celebrated his 49th birthday on May 5, 2023, before his untimely demise.

The burial arrangements was scheduled for 1:00 pm, on the 15th of May but as of 2:17 pm, the body of the deceased did not arrive at the venue. The burial took place at Afolabi’s Ikorodu residence, located at Mopelufa, near the Aleke bus stop, after the Adamo bus stop on the Ijebu Ode road in Ikorodu.
