Career

Finidi George began his professional career in Nigeria, playing for clubs such as Calabar Rovers, Iwuanyanwu Nationale, and Sharks. In 1993, he joined AFC Ajax in the Netherlands, where he achieved great success. Finidi played a crucial role in Ajax’s triumph, winning three consecutive Eredivisie titles from 1993 to 1996. He also appeared in consecutive UEFA Champions League finals, winning the prestigious tournament in the 1994-95 season against A.C. Milan.

Finidi George then moved to Spain and signed with Real Betis in 1996. He had successful seasons with Betis, scoring consistently and helping the team finish fourth in his first year. Finidi later played for RCD Mallorca in Spain and Ipswich Town in the English Premier League before retiring from professional football. Finidi was a key player for the Nigerian national team during the 1990s. He made his international debut in 1991 and represented Nigeria in two FIFA World Cups (1994 and 1998).

Finidi George played an instrumental role in Nigeria’s victory at the 1994 Africa Cup of Nations in Tunisia.
