Before entering politics, he worked as a teacher at the Rivers State Ministry of Education. However, he was fired in 1987 due to indiscipline, which later became a significant scandal in his political career.

Nestor K. Binabo had a successful career in politics and public service. He began his political journey in the Sagbama Local Council and later became a member of the Bayelsa State Assembly. In the assembly, he held positions such as Deputy Speaker and State Commissioner of Youths and Conflict Resolution. Binabo’s contributions and dedication to public service led to his election as the Speaker of the Bayelsa State Assembly.

In January 2012, he assumed the role of Acting Governor of Bayelsa State after the removal of Timipre Sylva by the Supreme Court. During his brief tenure, he made important decisions, including the dismissal of several members of Sylva’s cabinet and threatening legal action against Chevron following an oil spill.

After leaving the acting governorship, Binabo resigned as the Speaker of the Bayelsa State Assembly, citing the fact that both he and the new Governor, Henry Dickson, hailed from the same senatorial district. He played a significant role in the post-speakership period, successfully nominating his former deputy speaker, Fini Angaye, to fill the vacant position.

In 2015, Binabo experienced a significant political shift when he was expelled from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) due to alleged anti-party activities. He subsequently joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) and took on increasingly anti-PDP political positions.
