Continuing his political trajectory, Kyari was re-elected to the House of Representatives under the APP from 1999 to 2003. During his tenure, he made significant contributions as the Honorable Commissioner for Water Resources in Borno State from 2003 to 2005. Subsequently, he assumed the role of Managing Director of the Rural Water Supply Agency in Borno State from 2005 to 2007.

From 2007 to 2008, Kyari served as the Honorable Commissioner for Education in Borno State. He then held the position of Honorable Commissioner for Water Resources from 2008 to 2010. Demonstrating his versatility in governance, he served as the Honorable Commissioner for Home Affairs and Information in Borno State from 2010 to 2011. Later in 2011, Kyari took on the role of Honorable Commissioner for Works.

From 2011 to 2014, he served as the Chief of Staff at the Government House in Borno State, contributing to the administration’s strategic management. In 2015, Kyari was elected as a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, representing the APC party. He held this position until 2019 when he was re-elected as a Senator, continuing his representation of the Borno North Senatorial District under the APC party.

Furthermore, following the resignation of Abdullahi Adamu, Kyari was appointed as the Acting Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, a prominent political party in Nigeria.
