During his ambassadorship, in March 2020, Tuggar attended a meeting with Siemens in Germany regarding projects in the Nigerian power sector. The chief of staff to the president, Abba Kyari, who was present at the meeting, later tested positive for COVID-19. As a precautionary measure, Yusuf Maitama Tuggar ordered the closure of the Nigerian embassy in Berlin and tested negative for the virus.
